Angie and Stephen @Hotel DuPont ~ mkPhotography, Delaware Wedding Photographer

Wednesday, November 27th, 2013

Angie and Stephen, both actuaries, met in New York City at an actuarial exam seminar and they had their first date in the rain in Philadelphia. Angie, who is from Fairhill MD, and Stephen, from north Jersey, certainly have the mid Atlantic region of the U.S. covered! They decided to marry in Wilmington, DE as a good middle ground for their friends and family to meet and the two reside in Philadelphia.

Says the bride:
Steve and I first met at just about the least romantic setting you can imagine…a seminar to prepare us for our upcoming actuarial exam. Fortunately for both of us, we quickly discovered we had more in common than just studying for exams. As we both lived within a few miles of each other in Philadelphia and worked in the same building downtown, our friendship quickly grew over almost daily lunches and exploring our Manayunk neighborhood. By the time Steve finally asked me on our first official date, little did he know that he had already won me over with his big heart and sense of humor. Nearly four years later, we were trying to decide where to go on vacation. Since I had never been, he insisted we go to Disney World. On our first day there, Steve surprised me with a couples’ massage and a seven course meal. However, the biggest surprise came at the end of the night when he proposed on a private beach during a firework show. I was so overwhelmed with emotions that I barely remember that moment, but I’m sure it will be a trip I’ll never forget. After two years of planning, we tied the knot at the beautiful Hotel du Pont, a venue which epitomized my wedding vision of classic elegance. Our entire day was truly magical, but we will always remember our friends lifting us both up on their shoulders during the final song for one last kiss to cap off the night. Thank you to everyone who helped to make our dream wedding a reality!

Sarah and Ian @College of Physicians ~ mkPhotography, Philadelphia Wedding Photographer

Wednesday, November 20th, 2013

Sarah and Ian grew up in the same town, Brookfield, Connecticut, but did not meet until the summer of 2007. They were both home from college, and met Memorial Day weekend through mutual friends and have been inseparable ever since!

Proposal: August 24, 2012.
To celebrate their five year anniversary, Ian surprised Sarah with a getaway to the Brandywine Valley. They visited many wineries for wine tasting, and enjoyed delicious local fare. However, the trip was almost cut short when Ian’s nerves got the best of him… Sarah thought he was sick! Ian convinced Sarah to continue with his plan to go to Longwood Gardens.

At Longwood Gardens, Sarah and Ian enjoyed the beautiful scenery and each other’s company. Once they visited the Forest Walk, Ian waited for an opportunity to pop the question. After finding a quiet spot, he got down on one knee and proposed. Sarah, of course, screamed YES! It was perfect.

The newly engaged couple enjoyed the rest of the weekend celebrating with their families and friends.

Wedding Planning Ideas: “We wanted our wedding to be a classy and sophisticated event. When planning every detail of our wedding, we focused on elegance. Our wedding also included touches of sparkle.”

Sarah and Ian’s “perfect wedding” vision – “Classy, sophisticated and elegant, with a touch of sparkle. Our unique color palate of purple, blush and silver; touches of sparkle; a classic Philadelphia feel.”

Their most memorable moment: (Says Sarah:) “Walking down with aisle with my Dad toward my husband. It’s the moment every girl dreams of!”

One last thing: “What – if anything – did we DIY? – We designed and created our wedding paper online. This enabled us to make our wedding paper personalized to the style and feel of our wedding.”

MSquerade 2013 ~ mkPhotography, Delaware Event Photographer

Friday, November 15th, 2013

A week ago Mike and Jana had the honor of photographing the MSquerade 2013! It was held at World Cafe Live at the Queen in downtown Wilmington, DE! The event was a festival of masks and gorgeous gowns and bursting with big bold color — what a venue! There was face painting, and extensive and impressive silent auction, a mashed potato bar (!!)… It was put on to raise funds for the Delaware Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Here are just a few of the many images that evening. (See the full gallery of this event HERE.)

This gorgeous historic venue, The Queen Theater, just before the party began.

United States Senator Christopher Coons of the state of Delaware says a few words at the event’s VIP reception.

The announcers for part of the not-so-silent auction emcee on stage as the owner of Desserts by Dana (and the winner of The Next Great Baker on TLC!) Dana Herbert looks on.

Wilmington’s Chorduroy completely rocked the house throughout the night!

A rare photograph of us in front of our own lens!

Cristina and Andrew @VIE ~ mkPhotography, Philadelphia Wedding Photographer

Wednesday, November 13th, 2013

From the Bride:
Andrew and I met in January of 2007. A mutual friend of ours was having an “after” New Years Eve party.

After sitting at a table with my girlfriends for a while, I locked eyes with this strikingly handsome guy that walked through the door. He had the most gorgeous, piercing blue eyes. We stared at each other for what felt like a lifetime.

My heart was beating a mile a minute and I just knew this was the man I was going to marry. He approached me with the sweetest, most genuine smile and started making conversation. It felt like we were old friends, catching up after not seeing each other for a while.

We talked and laughed all night about everything and anything and have been inseparable ever since. We truly are one another’s best friend, confidant and voice of reason. As one of my close friends puts it we, “are like peas in a pod.”

Andrew and I are big homebodies. We love to unwind on the couch after a long day of work and watch T.V. or listen to music…. (sometimes debate over music!) We are also avid foodies and love going out to dinner.

Family is also extremely important to us. We spend most of our free time with our loved ones, especially our 9 year-old son Austin and our dog Lucia.

Andrew stayed true to our life-motto and organized an intimate, romantic proposal at our home. I awoke on a sunny, summer morning to his ocean blue eyes staring at me from the side of the bed, waiting on one knee with a ring in his hand! I sprung up in bed… trying to do everything in my power to make sure I was awake (and not dreaming) as he whispered in my ear…”I love you more than anything in this world… will you be my wife?”

I screamed Yes, yes yes, jumped up and down on the bed like a maniac and proceeded to cry hysterically and call my parents who already knew about the entire event. We all went out to Silk City for brunch to celebrate.

I couldn’t have asked for a better engagement! It was perfection! To top it all off, later that month we toured Rome, the Amalfi Coast, Florence and Venice. I come from a large Italian family thus knew we would have a large Italian wedding. Andrew likes to say he’s “italian by association.”

We are both very classic people. We wanted our wedding to be timeless, elegant and simple, with a little bling! I really love the 20’s and 40’s as well as pin-up girls and anything vintage. In accordance with classic simplicity we introduced mostly neutral tones accented with subtle pink hues.

Our first dance was to Aqualung “Brighter than Sunshine.” My husband called a local college radio station when we first met and dedicated that song to me on the air. We danced to it in his kitchen at the time.

It’s hard to narrow our wedding down to one memorable moment. As the guys from Love Sick Inc. say, “the whole day is a blur of loveliness.” I totally believe that is true. However, I vividly remember the doors to the church opening and everyone except Andrew faded into the background. Our eyes locked and I just felt “grateful.” I’ll never forget that moment. It was so joyful and yet simultaneous so humbling.

A close second moment was dancing with my step-son, Austin, at our reception to “Beautiful Boy” by John Lennon. I told him I was going to dance with him to that very same song one day at his wedding.

Cescaphe Event Group is well known for their spectacular food display. Everything was amazing! Our entrees were Filet in a red wine demi-glaze, Chilean Sea Bass in a Miso glaze and Duck L’Orange. Our last dance was to “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” by Journey. It was a perfect way to end the perfect night.

Lauren and Mike @The Ritz Carlton ~ mkPhotography, Philadelphia Wedding Photographer

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

How we got engaged:
Since Lauren works from home it is no easy task to get her out of the apartment for an extended period of time. Mike needed about 30 minutes of preparation without her around in order to execute the proposal, so he had to come up with a diversion…

From the groom:
“I came home from work on December 12th and politely asked Lauren “What’s for dinner?”. She mentioned that she was thinking about having steaks but that we would have to run out to get them. I expressed my unwillingness to go grocery shopping while she reiterated that if I wanted steak for dinner I had to come along.

Thinking in my head that today would most likely not be the night to propose I let two hours pass by and then reapproached Lauren, this time from a different angle. I told her that a package arrived for her today and she could receive it this evening (it was the 5th night of Hanukkah) but I needed time to open it up to make sure everything was there and possibly set it up….she continued to hesitate.

Eventually, Lauren gave in and ran to the store on her own, giving me enough time to get out the 4,000 silk rose petals, lay them down the hallway and set them up in the bedroom along with candles galore. Once the scene had been set, I called Lauren to verify when she would be home as I didn’t want to light the candles too early and burn down the apartment!

Lauren walked in the door and had no idea what was going on; she eventually made her way into the bedroom where I was down on one knee waiting for her to say ‘YES!’.

While the first words out of her mouth were “YES!” they were quickly followed by a “Did you ask my dad?”. I told her of course I had already asked her parents for permission….and then proceeded to ask when my steak would be ready*!”

(*Mike ended up cooking dinner while Lauren reported the big news to family and friends!)

What was our “perfect wedding” vision?
Our perfect wedding vision was a traditional, elegant evening with an informal ceremony, good food, great music and fantastic company.

What were three unique details that we infused into our decor?
With the help of Lamsback Floral Decorators, we selected two unique tablecloths and had them alternating across the guest tables. One was a gold lace cloth infused with a metallic thread and the other was a sheer, silk organza-esque fabric decorated with small pearls.

We also decided on cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake because we both really enjoy a good cupcake! We chose two different flavors – sweet potato with a carmel-buttercream frosting, and tiramisu. At the end of the party, while our guests were leaving and heading for the lobby bar, Mike and I stole away five minutes and sat down at our sweetheart table to enjoy our cupcakes!

Another unique detail was Mike’s groomsman gifts. He ordered customized Nike sneakers for each of his groomsmen in the colors of their favorite sports teams. After the ceremony the guys immediately switched out of their uncomfortable tuxedo shoes and into their new sneakers.

What was our most memorable moment?
There are too many to list! We had such an absolute blast from the day-long preparations through the ceremony and party into the wee hours of the morning at the Ritz lobby bar. Thanks to our incredibly talented vendors, every moment exceeded our expectations.

What was on our menu?
Tri-color beet salad, mint mojito sorbet intermezzo, stone bass and lamb chops

What – if anything – did we DIY?
Says the Bride:
“Not a darn thing ;). I’m not a DIY kinda-girl!”

Scott proposed to Alisa on a paddle boat in the Tidal Basin in front of the Washington Monument! The two presently live in the nation’s capitol and made the drive up for their engagement session in Longwood Gardens, PA on a gorgeous October day.
