Jennifer & Kyle Wedding @ Greenville Country Club ~ mkPhoto ~ Delaware Wedding Photographer

From the Bride:

Kyle and I have been dating since our sophomore year of college. We’d been together for 10 years when he proposed in a garden while we were on vacation in Rome. We are not big planners, so we did not move quickly on getting all of our wedding details lined up. We thought maybe we’d have a destination wedding in the Caribbean, but knew that planning it from our home in London, with most of our guests spread across the US, would not be easy. About 18 months into our engagement, I was home visiting family and my mom suggested we check out the Greenville Country Club in Delaware. I fell in love with it. I knew that it would be much easier to plan a wedding in my hometown, so when we found out there was an opening for Memorial Day weekend, we went for it.

My approach to wedding planning was very laid back. I was lucky that my mom kindly took on most of the planning work. We were fortunate that many fabulous vendors were available even though we booked most things only 2-3 months before the wedding – it helped that our wedding was on a Sunday evening. Overall, we had a lot of fun doing the planning and it was much easier than I expected. The key is to remember what’s important, focus your attention there and not stress about anything else (and to get help!)

The wedding weekend was fantastic. It exceeded all my expectations and really was the best weekend of my life. Our friends and families live across the country and we don’t see them as much as we’d like, so instead of a traditional rehearsal dinner, we had an open house style party at my childhood home. It allowed us to spend a lot of time catching up in a more casual setting. On the day of the wedding, the weather was absolutely perfect and everything went smoothly. Each of my bridesmaids picked her own dress, and I didn’t see them in person until that day. I loved their picks, and the girls looked beautiful. Kyle and the groomsmen looked very sharp in their navy blue tuxedos. All the vendors showed up at exactly the right time and knew exactly how to run things. The ceremony was officiated by one of my very best friends, looking glamorous in a long sequined gown! We had one reading given by my uncle, which was an excerpt from a love letter written by my grandfather to my grandmother on one of their wedding anniversaries.

The reception was a blast. Our friends and parents did a wonderful job with the toasts, eliciting both laughter and tears. The DJ was great and everyone was out on the dance floor. There wasn’t a moment of stress the whole day, it was pure happiness. Being with so many people you love is such an incredible feeling. I wouldn’t change a thing about it.
