Allison and Danny @Winterthur ~ mkPhotography, Delaware Wedding Photographer
Danny and Allison met in the fall of 2009 when Danny started school for his doctorate in physical therapy. Allison was a PhD student at the time and helped to TA his class that fall. After the completion of the class they went out on their first date for sushi and a movie and the rest is history. They were engaged in February of 2013 overlooking Tampa Bay during a trip to see Phillies Spring Training!
When they started planning their wedding they wanted the event to reflect their love for the outdoors and active lifestyle as well as their close relationship with their families. Winterthur was a perfect location since both grew up within miles of the property. As Danny likes to say, Allison is a tree-loving-hippie, so nature, hiking, and trees eventually evolved into an unofficial theme for their outdoor garden wedding. A blue and green natural looking color scheme involving many tree and nature-themed touches were incorporated into several aspects of their wedding: the ceremony took place in front of a beautiful magnolia tree in full bloom, stationary included a blue and green tree icon created by Designs Made Simple (https://www.etsy.com/shop/DesignsMadeSimple), tables were named after hikes they had completed together, guests left messages and signatures on leaves of a tree designed by Peachwik (http://peachwik.com), and they entered the reception to “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen with custom race bibs (http://www.races2remember.com/Home.php), and crossed a finish line on the dance floor while guests waved their custom wedding rally towels. Their numerous family traditions were all incorporated seamlessly into their wedding ceremony under a chuppah, including a Quaker moment of silence, flute solo by Danny’s sister, breaking of the glass, a non-denominational reading by Allison’s aunt, and a Catholic reading by Danny’s uncle.
Allison was wore a crocheted lace Pronovias gown, with royal blue peep toe shoes, a custom short-length veil, sapphire and diamond jewelry and a family heirloom diamond bracelet. Hair and makeup for Allison and the bridal party was done by stylists Margie and Annie at Visions Hair Design (http://www.visions-hair.com/index.html). Bridesmaids wore simple blue pleated dresses from Target, accented with a tan and gold belt, and gold shoes. Danny and Allison’s most memorable part of the day was the beautiful weather and overwhelming love from their family and friends at their outdoor ceremony, with the magnolia tree in full bloom behind their birch branch chuppah. Their first dance was “You Do Something To Me” by Conal Fowkes, for a classical feel. Guests were served a choice of salmon in a beurre blanc sauce, or rosemary chicken with an olive tapenade. The positive, and fun loving couple concluded the night with the song, “Everything is Awesome” by Tegan and Sara from the Lego Movie.
The whole wedding day went off without a hitch thanks to the wonderful wedding planning of Erin Proud and Proud to Plan, and the Restaurants Incorporated Staff at Winterthur. Mike and Jana from MK Photo and Jeff from New Milford Productions captured the natural beauty and unique touches, Honey Gorney from Honeybunches provided beautiful sunflower, blue delphinium, and fern florals, DJ Matt from Synergetic Sounds provided music and lighting, and the Master’s Baker provided a beautiful blue and green tree themed cake with a Lego cake topper.
