From the bride:
“Larry and I met at University of Delaware 9 years ago. We were both members of the same student organization, and we quickly became friends. We would meet up almost every night to get coffee and would spend hours talking. One night after watching a movie, he kissed me and we’ve been together ever since. After graduation, we moved to Massachusetts for graduate school (for me) and law school (for him). In December of 2011, we were living in Boston and getting ready to go home for the holidays. Larry and I always do our own exchange of Christmas presents before we head home. Under the Christmas tree, Larry gave me a card that he had made that listed the top ten things of our year on each page. When I got to the last page, it said our number one moment was “The day you said Yes?”. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I have never been so surprised in my life! We spent the night celebrating together at one of Boston’s most romantic restaurants, and then we were able to share our news with all our friends and family when we got home for Christmas!!
We knew that we wanted to get married in Delaware because that is where our families are. It’s where we both grew up, and it’s where we met. When it came to planning our wedding, we knew we wanted it to be elegant and classic, but mostly we wanted it to be fun for our friends and family. We decided to have our ceremony at St. Thomas the Apostle in Wilmington and the reception at the DuPont Country Club. Our officiant was my priest from high school, Father Corrigan. We wanted to incorporate our own personal touches to the wedding, as well as some family traditions. I carried my great-great grandmother’s rosary in my bouquet, which included stephanotis because those are the flowers my parents had in their wedding. Our colors were purple (my favorite color) and green (Larry’s favorite color). We made our own table numbers, menus and seating cards. We also decided to do signature drinks of our favorite cocktails. The Bride’s choice was St. Germain and Champagne, and the Groom’s choice was a Manhattan. At times, planning the wedding felt so overwhelming, but we couldn’t be happier with the way it all came together. It was definitely the best day of our lives!”
